Lorna Syson Bullfinch Cushions + Pols Potten Bowls |

7.2.13

Lorna Syson Bullfinch Cushions + Pols Potten Bowls
Last month I waxed lyrical about a beautiful Lorna Syson cushion I had received as a gift. The birth of a rather serious addiction. Since its arrival I have speedily expanded my Lorna Syson collection to a matching great tit & juneberry cushion & lampshade plus these three darling bullfinch square cushions. In my interior-holic defence, I have been thinking for quite a while about new cushions for the sitting room but I hadn't been able to find any I liked. And then bam, all at once, these were the ones. I love how these peach-chested cuties tie in with the battered faded hues of our cat-torn beaten-up old Chesterfield. On another homeware note, I also mentioned how my kitchen plans included replacing some Pols Potten bowls, well, also below are my newly-arrived stripy set of six. You like?

A Late Christmas Present - Lorna Syson Cushion - Kitchen Inspiration |

27.1.13

A Late Christmas Present - Kitchen Inspiration
A lovely late Christmas present in the form of a gorgeously white Lorna Syson cushion with two little tits (British made using sustainable materials) has inspired me to give our kitchen a bit of a rethink. There's nothing major we can do – we've got a little dining table space which is also home to a huge hulking dresser, a mis-matching bookcase and an upright piano. It's pretty tight in there. But what I can do is rethink what's on display (basically whatever doesn't fit in the dresser) and how to make it look a bit more intentional rather than the kind of nice, but ultimately very bric-a-brac, look it's got going on at the moment. Anyway, this cushion (soon to be matched with another) with its fresh whiteness is the starting point. Step two is to replace a set of favourite bowls by Dutch homeware brand Pols Potten – lovely little dotted and stripy bowls you really do want to have on display. I'll let you know how I get on.

An Elysian Sewing Box Rite of Passage |

11.1.13

A Sewing Box Rite of Passage
Elysian Liberty print sewing box
I do sew. In fits and starts. I've made ill-fitting skirts and cushions and quite gorgeous yakutas from fabric bought in Tokyo. I've made lavender bags with garden-grown lavender, frilly little knickers that have only just started to fall apart and a 70s collared man's shirt with disco buttons which was too tight. I've taken sewing night classes on Curtain Road – ladies, I know how to attach a sleeve – and yes, I machined the floor to ceiling lined curtains that hang in our sitting room (with Mummy Stylonylon's help, of course, that is not a one-person job). So it was about time I upgraded my sewing kit from shoe boxes to something a bit more sophisticated. Sewing box by Liberty, natch.

Instagramming Oh, That Christmas Feeling...! |

22.12.12

Nothing makes me feel more Christmassy and inspired than getting home to Edinburgh to a beautiful tree and decorations – all done by the interior-loving mother Stylonylon :). So first up 1. we have the Christmas tree which comes out every year and is decorated with a mix of new baubles and childhood decorations (rocking horse, little angels, snowmen and reindeer). 2. Lovely cakes at Patisserie Valerie where we stopped for a much-needed rest while last-minute Christmas shopping 3. Hand-knitted socks   for the little cookie (also from the very clever mother Stylonylon!) 4. And Christmas lights on one of my favourite Edinburgh streets, Rose Street.

Anthropologie Spring 2013 - Fashion & Home Preview Edit |

15.11.12

Managed another press day, this time a preview of Anthropologie's Spring '13 collection where there were some really nice surprises. A fabulous quilted black jacket with just the right amount of bead and sequin shoulder detailing; some very Illesteva round sunglasses by Copenhagen-based clothing and accessories brand Han; a cool grey marl sweat shirt (this collection is the first to include plainer block colour pieces to mix in with the usual brighter prints), some extremely covetous printed satin booties, gold sandals and paisley bomber jacket. And then the bright and colourful home line, which I couldn't keep away from as I'm a complete sucker for all things cushion and quilt shaped, and just look at those cute measuring spoons – luckily you can buy the current season measuring spoons right now, perfect Christmas presents. Shop more current season accessories and homeware below.

DIY Super Shabby Chic Patio Seat |

11.10.12

stylonylon.com/2012/10/diy-super-shabby-chic-patio-seat
I can't take any credit for the building of this lovely outdoor seat (huge thanks to the my lovely husband, his bro and bro's girlfriend :)) for making it all happen but I'm so proud of the finished result just had to post. I found some random instructions here and they were loosely adhered to – the whole job was done with a power saw, electric drill, screws and old green doors.

House of Hackney's Clothing Collection |

7.8.12

Love that House of Hackney has extended their gorgeous interiors prints to a capsule collection of clothing. There's something super delightful about the idea of matching your dress, skirt and cardigan to your lampshade, cushions and wallpaper. And yes, I've been playing around on Bazaart again...
