Outfit Planning - London Fashion Week - For Day 1

It's pretty intimidating figuring out what to wear to fashion week – street style has rocketed so high into the stratosphere that the very thought of being on the same pavement as the myriad style star editors, models, stylists, photographers and, of course, bloggers is enough to bring you out in a cold sweat. This year I'm lucky enough to be doing just a tiny bit of fashion week and though it's only a toe-dip (two shows – FelderFelder tomorrow and Christopher Kane on Monday) I do want to feel good on the outfit front. So here's today's outfit prep. Rocking the monochrome trend with this fabulous oversized cardigan By Malene Birger, going a bit casual and spring-like with Free People daisy denim and proudly sporting two of my most cherished leather items, a Sophie Hulme satchel and Sam Edelman Petty booties (both excellent sale purchases I must add :)) and jewellery by my new favourite Portuguese Heart. So wish me luck and check back in over the weekend for some fashion show snaps.
ps. Happy Valentine's Day! I'm writing this in a rush as, shock horror, we are actually going out for a meal tonight. And I'm wearing a new dress! Oh, the excitement...

#NextGuestBlogger – My First Outfit Post

Wow! I could not believe it when I received the email telling me I had won the #NextGuestBlogger competition. After a few (read: many) yelps of delight and a cup of tea plus some celebratory chocolate (natch) I sat down to properly re-read the prize details. Three outfits from the Next SS13 collection of £150 each, which I would then get to blog about. Pretty amazing! So here you have it, my first guest post for Next and my first outfit. To begin, I was in a bit of tizz about what to choose. There are so many options and what's more, a lot of the Next pieces come in Petite, which is brilliant when you are just 5"2, but required even more careful choosing. So I browsed and browsed. I knew I would definitely go for the biker jacket (wardrobe staple and I love the padded slim sleeves on this one) so I decided to build an outfit around it. However, I didn't want to take the easy option and team with skinny jeans, so instead I chose a pair of jersey pants. Then the look started to take shape – suddenly I knew I wanted to create the kind of outfit you could wear while travelling, hanging around an airport looking stylish, a little bit cool, but ultimately feeling comfy. The ankles boots and slouchy spacious bag were obvious choices and then, of course, a slub tee. My original intention had been to do a full black and white monochrome look – it's everywhere right now, and understandably so, it is such an effective look and so easy to do – but I thought I'd soften this outfit up with grey. So, below you have a collage of the original outfit concept and the photographs bringing it to life plus a short You Tube video talking you through each piece. What do you think? Do you like the look? Is this the kind of thing you would have chosen?

I had such great fun photographing these beautiful pieces from new online jewellery company Portuguese Heart. Traditional filigree (filigranas) handmade in the north of Portugal – in the towns of Viana do Castelo and Gondomar – I really hadn't seen anything quite as delicately made before. Just launched a couple of months ago, the brand is already building up a loyal customer base – "I have customers who have bought one piece, and then come back for a second and a third," the Lisbon-born founder Catarina Araujo told me (extremely accommodating, Catarina is only too happy to source different sizes and finishes for her customers). And I can see why; each piece feels like something extremely special, when held in your hand and when worn – no wonder Portuguese brides wear this jewellery on their wedding day. For me, the intricate work is perfectly paired with light, floaty white and these are exactly the kind of pieces I'll be wearing this summer come Ibiza time.
